The ILOOK OTT Platform

ILOOK is an OTT platform for YouTube channels. The platform instantly turns YouTube channels into individual mobile TVapps that behave like traditional TV networks.

Getting Started

To quickly create a TVapp for your YouTube channel, simply log into your YouTube account from the ILOOK website. Your TVapp, containing all your video, is automatically submitted to mobile app stores where it becomes available for download by TV viewers. You do NOT need an iOS/Android Developer Account.

Advanced Features

Advanced features include TVapp creation, video uploading, syndication and monetization:

 It is possible to create a TVapp without linking to a YouTube channel. Video can be added to a TVapp after the app is created.

 Videos can be uploaded by linking one or more YouTube channels directly to your ILOOK account (rather than to a TVapp). Uploaded videos are available for syndication and monetization.

 Syndication enables you to export videos from your ILOOK account into other people's TVapps (you do not need to own a TVapp) and to import videos from ILOOK into your TVapp.

 ILOOK supports three monetization methods: Pay-per-view (PPV), Subscriptions, and TV commercials. Monetization revenue collected by ILOOK is automatically forwarded to TVapp owners and their syndicators. ILOOK does not keep any part of a TVapp's PPV and Subscription revenue.

Who Uses ILOOK

ILOOK supports four user types:

YouTube channel owners create monetized TV networks by turning their YouTube channels into TVapps.

• Content owners easily syndicate their video into any TVapp and automatically participate in monetization revenue.

Advertisers can designate any video as a TV commercial to be automatically inserted across all TVapps.

TV viewers use TVapps as program guides to easily discover video and to view it on any screen.

Television Delivery Platforms

Television is delivered to the home in four primary ways:

ILOOK is currently the only OTT television provider. The advantage of OTT is that it provides  unlimited space for TV networks, allowing anyone to add their TV network to the ILOOK platform.

Play Video on Any Screen

Another advantage of OTT is that TV programs can play on any screen.

ILOOK makes it easy to watch TV on any screen by locating the program guide on the mobile device screen. The user simply selects from a list of available screens. For example, this list can include screens such as:

• the iPhone;

• the Living-room TV; and

• the Bedroom TV.

While a video is playing on any screen, the mobile device can still be used for browsing the program guide.  Likewise, when a video is playing on a TV screen, the mobile device can be used for running other apps without interfering with the video.

To play TVapp video on a TV screen, the TV needs to be connected to the Internet through one of the following devices:

Google Chromecast (preferred)

AppleTV

Xbox

Managing Your Videos

The My ILOOK tab of this website is used to upload videos from a YouTube channel to an ILOOK account and to link uploaded videos to one or more TVapps.

To manage all videos in your ILOOK account, go to My ILOOK > Manage ILOOK Videos. To manage videos that are linked to a TVapp, go to My ILOOK > Manage TVapp Videos. Videos in a TVapp can be managed even after the TVapp is published.

Uploading Videos into ILOOK

There are two ways to upload videos into ILOOK.

• Simple: All videos in your YouTube channel can be automatically uploaded to ILOOK and linked to your TVapp in a single step when you are creating a new TVapp.  Go to: My ILOOK > My TVapps on the ILOOK website. Make sure that the Link My YouTube Channel checkbox is checked and click on the Create a New TVapp button.

• Advanced: To upload videos to your ILOOK account at any time, go to My ILOOK > My Videos > Manage ILOOK Videos on the ILOOK website.

Uploaded videos are available for syndication, reverse-syndication and paid-syndication.

Syndication – video owners export videos from their ILOOK account into their own TVapps or TVapps owned by others;

Reverse-syndication – TVapp owners import videos from ILOOK accounts of other video owners;

Paid-syndication – video owners designate videos as Featured Videos to have them automatically inserted into all TVapps as TV commercials.

Syndicating (Exporting) Videos

Video owners can syndicate (export) videos from their ILOOK account to their own TVapps or to any TVapp that has the Syndication option set to Yes.  If the Syndication option of a TVapp is set to No, the TVapp can only accept video submissions from its owner.

To enable/disable syndication into your TVapp:

(1) Select My ILOOK > My TVapps;

(2) Select a target TVapp from the list of TVapps;

(3) In the Syndication option, select the No | Yes radio button.  If Syndication Yes is selected, then also fill in the percentage of your TV commercial advertising revenue that should be shared with your syndicators. Click Save.

(4) In the Require approval for syndicated video option, select the No | Yes radio button.

To syndicate videos to a TVapp:

(1) On the ILOOK website, go to My ILOOK > My Videos > Syndication (export);

(2) In the list of the videos (on the left), select videos to be added to a TVapp;

(3) In the list of TVapps (on the right), select the target TVapp;

(4) Click the Syndicate button.

Reverse-Syndicating (Importing) Videos

TVapp owners can reverse-syndicate (import) videos from ILOOK accounts of other video owners. Any video that has been designated by the video's owner as Global is available for reverse-syndication.

To reverse-syndicate videos:

(1) On the ILOOK website, go to My ILOOK > My Videos > Reverse-Syndication (import).

(2) In the list of the videos (on the left), select videos to be added to a TVapp.

(2) In the list of My TVapps (on the right), select the target TVapp;

(3) Click the Reverse-Syndicate button.

Setting Video Attributes

Each video added to a TVapp can be designated as:

• Free;

• Premium requiring a TVapp subscription;

• Buy (forever) – requiring a one time payment;

• Rent (24-hours) – requiring a one time payment;

• Hidden  not visible to TV viewers;

• Global  available for Reverse-syndication (import), and automatically inserted into Playlists across all TVapps;

• Featured Video (FV), automatically inserted across all TVapps as a TV commercial.

To designate a video in a TVapp as Free, Premium, Buy, Rent, Hidden or Global, do the following:

(1) Select My ILOOK > My Videos > Manage TVapp Videos;

(2) In the list of TVapps (on the upper left), select the target TVapp;

(3) In the list of videos (on the lower right), select the video to manage;

(4) Select a desired video attribute by clicking on the relevant radio button;

(5) If Buy or Rent is selected, specify the dollar amount in the space provided.

To designate a video as a Featured Video, see How it Works > Insertting TV Commercials.

To edit the Info pane of a video in a TVapp, do the following:

(1) Select My ILOOK > My Videos > Manage TVapp Videos;

(2) In the list of TVapps (on the upper left), select the target TVapp;

(3) In the list of videos (on the lower right), select the target video;

(4) In the text box, input the custom text and hyperlinks (if any). Click Done.

Sorting of Videos in the Program Guide

The default sorting of videos in the Guide can be set to Newest, Most Popular and Most Highly Rated.  To define the default sort order of the Guide tab videos, do the following:

(1) Select My ILOOK > My TVapps > Manage TVapps;

(2) In the list of TVapps (on the left), select the target TVapp;

(3) In the Guide Default Sort option drop-down menu, choose Newest | Most Popular | Most Highly Rated.

How TVapp Revenue is Shared with Video Syndicators

Revenue from Featured Videos, TVapp subscriptions, and pay-per-view (PPV) videos is automatically forwarded to TVapp owners and their syndicators, according to a percentage specified by TVapp owners.

The syndicators revenue share is prorated by the percentage of their video play time on a TVapp.

Designating Videos as Featured Videos

ILOOK commercials are called Featured Videos (or FVs) and the process of inserting FVs into TVapps is called Paid-syndication. Any video, regardless of length, can be designated as an FV. FVs are automatically inserted across all TVapps that have the Featured Videos option enabled.

To enable/disable Paid-syndication:

(1) On the ILOOK website, go to My ILOOK > My TVapps;

(2) Select a target TVapp from the list of TVapps;

(3) In the Featured Videos option, select the No | Yes radio button.

FVs are inserted in two ways.

• A single FV is automatically played after the end of a regular video if at least ten minutes have passed since the last FV;

• Multiple FVs are automatically listed in the Guide, interleaved with regular videos.

To designate videos as FVs, go to My ILOOK > My Videos > Paid-Syndication  on the ILOOK website.  Then, select videos from the list of My uploaded videos.

Setting the Attributes of Featured Videos

ILOOK selects FVs for insertion based on an instant auction.

Whenever a TVapp requests an FV for automatic play, ILOOK searches the FV database and returns the ten highest bidders.  It then randomly selects one of the ten and inserts it after the end of the currently playing video.

Whenever a TVapp requests FVs for automatic listing in the Guide, ILOOK searches the FV database and returns all of the eligible FVs. All of the returned FVs are then inserted into the program Guide, interleaved with regular video listings, the highest bidder on top.

Advertisers are able to set attributes for the maximum CPM bid amount, the budget, the ad campaign start/end dates, and ad targeting.

To set the attributes of your FVs:

(1) On the ILOOK website, go to My ILOOK > My Videos > Paid-syndication;

(2) In the list of Campaigns (on the top), select the target Campaign;

(3) In the list of attributes on the right, specify the following:

• Maximum CPM bid

• Budget

• Start date

• End date

• Targeting

• Active: Yes | No

Targeting of Featured Videos

ILOOK can target FVs by automatically matching them with the context of the most recently played videos.

To target an FV:

(1) Go to My ILOOK > My Videos > Paid-Syndication;

(2) In the list of Campaigns (on the top), select the target Campaign.

(3) Click on the Targeting tags text box and list all the relevant tags separated by commas. Click Done.

How Featured Videos are Inserted

When FVs are enabled by a TVapp, a single FV is inserted at the end of a video if at least ten minutes have elapsed since the last FV. The TVapp treats FVs just like any other video – allowing them to be paused and even skipped. When an FV is skipped before its end, the advertiser is billed on a prorated basis. For example, if a 30 second FV is skipped after 15 seconds, the advertiser is only charged 50% of the CPM bid amount.

ILOOK also displays FV listings in the Guide in the order of decreasing CPM bid amount with the highest CPM bid FV on top interleaving with regular videos. All available FVs are listed, optionally limited by context.

Every FV played is logged in History and can be replayed at a later time.  Information about an FV (possibly with “Buy Now” links) appears in the Info pane of the ChannelApp.

How Featured Videos are Priced

When designating a video as an FV, advertisers specify a “CPM bid”, where CPM stands for the price of 1,000 insertions of a 30 second FV. This CPM bid is charged differently, depending on how an FV is inserted.

When an FV is automatically played, the charge equals the CPM bid prorated by the percentage of the FV actually played.

When an FV is automatically listed in the Guide and is manually selected for play or the Info button is tapped, the charge equals the CPM bid prorated by the percentage of the FV actually played.

When an FV is automatically listed in the Guide, the first time in a Campaign that the listing is displayed on the screen, the charge equals the CPM bid / 10.

All of the above CPM bid amounts are based on a standard 30-second FV. FVs of different durations are billed on a prorated basis. For example, a 15-second FV is billed at 50% of the CPM bid.
